Evidence for artificiality at Cydonia

 Back to Current Stories

FACETS submits ten additional sites for Mars Global Surveyor imaging

(Thank you to all who submitted targets for consideration, and to Richard Hoagland and Lan Fleming for their help in site selection and data collection)

PRIMARY TARGETS

"DiPietro and Molenaar (D&M) Pyramid"

Location: Cydonia 40.7°N, 9.5°

Description and reasons to suspect artificiality: Massif with triangular faces, "buttressing"; straight base, symmetrical sides, well-defined apex, facing nearly due south. Linearity/rectilinearity/parallelism; anomalous surface smoothness; relative symmetry; mutual orientation with other anomalous features

"Tetrahedral Rim Pyramid"

Location: Cydonia ~40.4°N, ~8.9°

Description and reasons to suspect artificiality: Small pyramidal mound on crater near "Cliff" feature previously imaged by MGS. Shape and position are of interest. No evidence of blast shadow, height one-third as tall as crater is deep. Lack of damage within blast radius of impact crater

"Crater Pyramid"

Location: Cydonia 46.3°N, 3.2°

Description and reasons to suspect artificiality: Isolated massif adjacent to a crater and furrowed terrain; highest point for more than 100km in all directions, prior NASA interest in region; nearby non-fractal channels. Lack of damage within blast radius of impact crater

"Tube-like landforms"

Location: Cydonia 39°N, 27.1°

Description and reasons to suspect artificiality: MGS image: http://barsoom.msss.com/moc_gallery/ab1_m04/maps/M0400291.gif. Linearity/rectilinearity/parallelism; anomalous surface smoothness, apparent specular reflection

"Saucer shaped object"

Location: North wall of East Ophir Chasma 4.46°S, 70.32°

Description and reasons to suspect artificiality: MGS image: http://barsoom.msss.com/moc_gallery/ab1_m04/images/AB108505.html. Anomalous surface smoothness and shape

SECONDARY TARGETS

"Bowl" and nearby pyramidal object

Location: Cydonia 40.3°N, 10.8°

Description and reasons to suspect artificiality: Non-fractal crater-like feature located at center of platform-like structure with "ramp", accompanied by rectilinear, perpendicular "cuts"; nearby pyramid's southern face is oriented due south. Linearity/rectilinearity/parallelism; anomalous surface smoothness

"Sagan's Elysium Pyramids"

Location: Elysium 16.6°N, 198.4°

Description and reasons to suspect artificiality: Pyramidal landforms, tetrahedral landforms. Linearity/rectilinearity/parallelism; anomalous surface smoothness; relative symmetry; mutual orientation with other anomalous features

"Flows"

Location: Gordii Dorsum or Medusae Fossae Formation 4.18°N, 146.69°

Description and reasons to suspect artificiality: MGS image: http://www.msss.com/moc_gallery/m07_m12/maps/M11/M1104104.gif. Anomalous surface coloring, unexpected "flow" patterns

"Parallel pipe-like structures"

Location: Ares Vallis 8.86°N, 22.60°

Description and reasons to suspect artificiality: MGS image: http://barsoom.msss.com/moc_gallery/ab1_m04/maps/FHA00818.gif. Linearity/rectilinearity/parallelism

"Gridded terrain"

Location: Alba Patera 40.24°N, 110.96°

Description and reasons to suspect artificiality: MGS image: http://barsoom.msss.com/moc_gallery/ab1_m04/images/M0200351.html. Linearity/rectilinearity/parallelism
